The Solano County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution recognizing March as Women's History Month - a celebration of the suffrage of the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote on June 14, 1919. Solano County Supervisor Wanda Williams is creating a tradition of her own two months into her first year on the Board of Supervisors. For the third time, Williams presented a proclamation from her office linked to recognition coming from the board on a broader issue. In this case, Williams turned the spotlight on the 112-year history of the Wednesday Club of Suisun City, which was a part of the fight. Mary Howard, co-president of the club, noted that after passage of the 19th Amendment, the 106 members of the club then worked to register women to vote, and have since dedicated their time and money toward community causes as well as scholarships for music, nursing and general academics. "Our story is about women who thought they could make a difference," Howard said. Several other members of the now 96-member club also attended the meeting, each wearing white in homage to the suffrage movement.
